You’re in pretty good shape for the shape you are in.
– Dr. Suess
I took it upon myself to make dinner tonight. Notice the pan of vegetables. Carrots, red bell peppers, green beans, and onions, cooked together and seasoned with special (and natural) ingredients… Yum! I gotta say, I am a junk food junkie, but this veggie meal is definitely something I would make again. I steamed white rice, which was topped with the vegetable mix, and, although I probably have a biased opinion, I thought it was pretty flavorful. On the other hand, my mom and my boyfriend soaked their servings with soy sauce so…. Who knows.
One of my New Year’s resolutions was to eat healthier, and for me, this means cutting excessive sugar and processed foods. I’ve also been counting my calories. Have you ever tried that? You would be amazed at how many calories are in single meals that restaurants serve. For example, Olive Garden is a personal favorite of mine. Did you know that their chicken parmigiana is over 1,000 calories?! The five cheese ziti is over 1,200! That’s my daily intake! And that’s not including all those breadsticks you eat before the meal even gets to you.
So, I guess I’m just trying to be more aware and keep track of what I am putting into my body on a daily basis. I’m still enjoying a white chocolate mocha from Starbucks and a slice of cake every once in a while. I’m not doing any miserable diets. I’m just taking small steps to a healthier lifestyle. 🙂
Well, the first snow day of 2016 has arrived, and it has treated me well. After a busy first week of spring semester classes, I was able to slide into the weekend stress-free and having fun!
My morning started with a hot cup of coffee and a home-cooked breakfast (thanks mom), and I played some music and piddled a bit on some ProTools projects. Later, I went sledding with my boyfriend and his family, and although the wind was biting cold, I really enjoyed spending quality time with quality people.
I’m enjoying this little bit of a winter wonderland while it lasts because sadly, it doesn’t snow very often here.
“The sun shines everywhere, not just the beach.”
After Christmas, my family took off to our favorite resort in Orange Beach, Alabama, and we stayed through the new year. It was different spending our beach vacation iceskating instead of sunbathing, but it was nice. I was actually sick during all of the New Year’s celebrations, so I had a lot of time to myself to reflect on 2015 and anticipate 2016. I came up with some New Year’s Resolutions, which I haven’t actually gotten to follow through with yet, but now that I’m finally starting to feel more like myself, I am ready to take on 2016!
Just off the top of my head, some goals for myself in 2016 are:
- drink more water
- take 10,000 steps a day
- do not rush my music/YouTube videos
- take steps toward an EP
- use heat protectant
2015 was a year of change and growing for me. It was a year of finding myself and making decisions that weren’t necessarily the “comfortable” option. It was a year of rediscovering my love for music and discovering a love for performing and performing alongside others. It was a year of learning to serve and finding true joy in just that.
So, I am proud of 2015 me, and I only hope to continue to grow and learn in 2016 and the years to come.
The most wonderful time of the year! This is my first Christmas to consistently post Christmas covers. I started recording Santa baby in early December and I was excited to include guitar, ukulele, and mandolin all in one cover! If you haven’t seen it yet, you can check it out here. -> Santa Baby (don’t worry, the link will open in a new window). So you can listen and continue reading! 😉
I recorded silent night literally like three days later, and of course, I couldn’t wait to post it. I’m just a really impatient person, and if I wait too long to post something, I probably won’t end up posting it at all. It’s a problem. So anyway, it’s just a simple acoustic cover featuring some pretty Christmas lights. If you’re interested in seeing it, you can check it out here -> Silent Night
These are probably my only Christmas covers this year, so I will see y’all again in music video form in 2016!
